I am a front-end web developer with over 7 years of professional experience. I'd love to help with the development of Ashes of Creation as a part-time Junior Gameplay Designer at Intrepid Studios.
- Relevant information and benefits: I am self-motivated and have been working well remotely as a part of a team that's based in the USA, with programmers, designers, and creative directors. No need to worry about office space, health insurance costs, and such. I am available most hours of the day 7 days a week for urgent work (I am currently responsible for website uptime for dozens of my clients and the clients of the agency I work for, so migrations and updates overnight are not a new thing for me). Generally, I prefer to work during regular hours, and because I have mostly an open schedule with my current full-time work, I can shift things around to a certain degree to adapt my schedule and put out extra work when something needs to be done ASAP, such as fast iterations based on playtests. In addition, I have extensive general technical experience and ability (such as experience programming, that can be quickly transferred to C++).
- Reason for part-time: Currently, I rely on income from my clients and full-time work. As a Junior Gameplay Designer, I do not expect the salary to match my salary as a current senior web dev, so I am not yet able to make a complete switch without significantly downsizing my family's lifestyle and house. However, despite my being overall happy with my current work, I found myself passionate about working on Ashes of Creation at Intrepid Studios, and I have enough time to be a part-time gameplay developer. I'd love to take on more hours and responsibilities in the future as I prove myself useful, and as it becomes financially feasible. I will then be open to cutting my hours at my current work to make space for more hours at Intrepid. Regardless, I'm flexible with working hours from day 1.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Strong logical, reasoning, and engineering skills. Good at figuring things out, searching/googling for solutions and solving problems.
- Good organizational skills and able to handle multiple priorities.
- HTML/CSS/JS/PHP - Expert in developing websites and web apps. Able to solve programming problems, conceptualize and engineer systems, such as recruiting tools, calculators, interactive infographics, and browser-based games. High attention to detail.
- Back-end - Experience with databases and with launching and configuring Ubuntu servers to host websites.
- Design - I have an eye for design (thanks to my web development career and experience as an ad designer).
- Quick learner - I love to learn new skills and challenge myself with new projects. I learn best "on the job", working on projects and debugging issues. And, as I regularly have to find solutions to various design/programming/marketing problems that my clients need help with, I became good at figuring things out and learning on the go.
- MMORPG - Long-time MMORPG gamer with a lot of experience. My favorites are Lineage 2 (had fun for more than half a decade playing this one), Runescape, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Archeage, and Elder Scrolls Online. Played many more, though, such as - Black Desert Online, Blade & Soul, Guild Wars 2, Lord of the Rings Online, Rift, Ultima Online, Darkfall, Mortal Online.
- Languages - Bilingual in English and Russian. Proficient with French.
RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2012 - 2014 - Contracted web developer, web designer, advertisement designer for a local Toronto-based media company. Was in charge of all graphic design for 2 weekly newspapers as well as the website.
- 2014 - Present - Self-employed contractor web developer and digital marketer. Timochenko.com (formerly Webbum.ca). Helped dozens of clients with creating their websites, improving their online presence and attracting customers (with SEO and/or Paid ads). Also, helped some of them make sense of analytics and ran conversion-centered iterations of their website or landing pages. My work includes a few interactive infographics, such as "The Furman advantage: a four-year pathway" section for the Furman University and an interactive Tesla infographic from back in 2016.
- 2015 - Present - Full-time senior web developer for The Johnson Group (advertising agency based in the US (Chattanooga, TN), which employs about 100 people. Johngroup.com). Directly responsible for developing, updating, and supporting dozens of websites, job search systems, store locators, etc., for their high-profile clients, such as U.S. Xpress, Marten Transportation, Lineman College, West Tennessee Healthcare, Salsaritas, Tencate Protective Fabrics. I am a valued member of the development team and have had a few promotion offers over the years for the position of a Technology Director to be in charge of the entire interactive team, but had to turn the offers down (mostly because I was unwilling to relocate).
GAME-DEV SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
- 2011 - 2012 - AAportal.net. Created and maintained the biggest international community of Archeage of that time - thousands of unique daily visitors, most up-to-date info on several languages, active forums. As recognition, received Korean CBT keys for my team directly from Jake Song (XLGames CEO) to cover the game internationally in English, French, and Russian. Examples of video work - Youtube video 1 and Youtube video 2.
- 2015 - Explored Unity and UE4 - limited experience, but became familiar with how they work.
- 2015 - Launched a private java Lineage 2 server 2 with DDOS mitigation, and a peak online of approximately 1000 players.
- 2017 - Was developing a browser-based online space strategy game. Here is a quick video walkthrough of the systems that I've developed.
- 2017 - Developed a mini-game for my client as a part of their Christmas marketing campaign. The scope and time for this project were limited, but it was enough to develop multiple systems that are at the core of most games – including x-axis movement, basic collision detection, health, ability to block, randomized speed and size of projectiles (larger snowballs can’t be blocked), mobile device support and high scores - Christmas game (has sound).
HOBBIES
- Playing MMORPGs and other online games.
- Practicing Muay Thai and Armwrestling.
- Hiking with my family.
